Course Overview
This course is designed specifically for new night vision owners who want to learn the basics of operating and shooting with their equipment in low to no light conditions.
Important Notice
This is not a basic shooting course. Students must already have a strong understanding of firearm safety and marksmanship. The class is designed to help students transition from daytime competence to becoming safe and effective night shooters.
Course Description
In this hands-on, multi-night course, you will learn to safely and effectively navigate, manipulate, and shoot with helmet-mounted night vision goggles (NVGs).
The class begins with intensive classroom instruction covering the science of night vision technology, proper gear setup, and understanding the specific limitations and advantages of operating under NVGs.
From there, we will transition to the range, moving from static shooting drills to more dynamic, movement-based exercises designed to build real confidence and muscle memory for operating in the dark. By the end of this course, you will have established a solid foundation of competency in utilizing NVGs and integrating weapon systems for low-light engagements.
Key Topics Covered
-
Night Vision Fundamentals
Learn the physiology of low-light vision and understand how night vision technology works, including the differences between passive aiming and active aiming with IR lasers.
-
Gear Set Up & Considerations
Get hands-on instruction for properly mounting and setting up your helmet, ABGs, and weapon-mounted IR laser/illuminator for optimal performance.
-
Zeroing IR Lasers
Learn how to accurately and efficiently zero your IR laser aiming device for use with your firearm.
-
Weapon Manipulation Under Night Vision
Practice marksmanship, reloading, and malfunction clearance drills in low-light and no-light conditions to develop a robust "by feel" capability.
-
Movement & Navigation
Learn to compensate for the altered depth perception and restricted field of view that come with wearing NVGs while moving through obstacles.
-
Active & Passive Aiming
Understand when to use passive aiming (with an NVG-compatible red dot) versus active aiming (with an IR laser) and how to transition seamlessly between them.
-
White Light Integration
Practice using and integrating white light while under NVGs, including using it to defeat an opponent's night vision setup.
