Course Overview

This course is designed for brand-new shooters or those who want to build a solid foundation in pistol marksmanship and safety.

You will receive comprehensive instruction in a relaxed, low-pressure environment, moving from classroom theory to practical, hands-on application on the firing range. The goal is to build your knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely and accurately handle a pistol.

Course Curriculum

  • Safety First

    A foundational review of the most important gun safety rules. Direct emphasis is placed on safe handling, storage, and transport of handguns.

  • Pistol Anatomy & Function

    Get to know the specific mechanical parts of both a semiautomatic pistol and a revolver, and understand exactly how they function.

  • Ammunition Basics

    An overview of the common types of handgun ammunition, calibers, and how to select the right ammunition for your specific pistol.

  • Shooting Fundamentals

    Learn the core, essential techniques required for accurate shooting:

    Stance

    The proper way to stand for maximum stability and recoil management.

    Grip

    Developing a firm, consistent, and correct grip for muzzle control.

    Sight Alignment

    How to align the front and rear sights and focus properly on your target.

    Trigger Control

    Squeezing the trigger smoothly straight back without disrupting your aim.

  • Hands-On Operation

    Gain practical experience with these core range manipulations:

    Loading & Unloading

    How to safely load, check, clear, and unload your pistol.

    Shooting Positions

    Practice shooting live fire from a stable, two-handed standing position.

  • Common Shooting Errors & Corrections

    Receive direct, personalized instructor feedback on the range to quickly identify and correct any natural shooting errors.

  • Range Etiquette & Practice

    Learn the standard rules, range command terminology, and safety procedures for proper, safe conduct on a public or private shooting range.
